The Kissing Booth 2

Going the Distance (The Kissing Booth, #2)

Published in 2020

I have to say that this book dragged for me. I know that is really mean to say especially since Beth Reekles was so young when she wrote the first full book. There is a short about the summer in between the books. But yes it dragged. I felt like I was getting as much from this one as I did the first one.

So Elle and Noah are a thing, out in the open now. He has left for college and she is starting senior year. Noah, who is actually pretty smart apparently, leaves early to start school. He doesn't want to talk to Elle about how school is going and actually avoids most of her advances to talk about it. She is struggling because there a rumors about her and Noah breaking up. Noah is tagged in a picture where he is pretty cozy with another girl. Elle doesn't really want to talk about it and assumes the worse. When she does finally talk to Noah about it she doesn't feel at ease. Lee does try to cheer her up but he is busy with football and his girlfriend. Lee is on a journey of his own. He wants to step out of big brother Noah's shadow but still be his replacement. Lee is kind of shading in this book. He hides things from both Elle and his girlfriend. He makes up lies and eventually pits the two against each other. So there is this new kid who eventually comes into play. Elle is nice to him and they start hanging out because Lee is ditching Elle either for football or the girlfriend. Levi seems like a nice kid. He has somethings at home that he doesn't want to talk about with the group but does share with Elle. They each in turn help each other out. Levi comes to babysit with Elle when Lee backs out. And Elle goes to Levi's to help him with his little sister. Levi tries to be a shoulder to lean on when it comes to talking about Noah and all she feels. They become very good friends and of course rumors about them go around as well. Noah seems to avoid Elle as time goes by. They do take a break because he can't believe she doesn't trust him and she can't believe that he would cheat on her.

Anyways some stuff happens to Lee and she and him become strained. She tries to sort that all out. He is hiding that he wants to go to college with his girlfriend. And she is deciding what she should do. But by Thanksgiving they are decently back to being friends. Noah is coming home and is bringing the new "girlfriend"

Elle goes to meet Levi because everything is so stressful during the Thanksgiving festivities. She meets him at a park not knowing Noah has followed. Elle and Levi kiss and Noah sees but Elle isn't aware of it really. She tells Levi she isn't interested.

Eventually Elle and Noah are back together and all the air is cleared between Elle and Lee as well.

I just feel like it was slow moving and I actually liked the first book and the short that was written as well.

2020 Netflix Film

So with this movie they didn't really follow the book. Which is okay in this case because the movie was better in some ways. They had Levi in there but the way it all goes down is different. Elle needs money for college and there is a DDR competition, which is of course their game, that has a great cash prize. So Lee hurts himself and finds a new partner for Elle. His name is Marco which should be Levi but totally different. So it's basically about them getting ready for the competition and Elle's relationship with Noah. Noah is very sketchy and not really into to Elle it seems. She does go to visit him and they have a great time. But she ends up finding an earring under his bed and reading some messages that seem sketchy. So they basically break up. Elle goes home heart broken. She and Marco do eventually end up winning the competition. Noah ends up in the audience of that and is happy when Elle wins. But Marco ends up kissing her and Noah takes off and it hurt thinking Elle moved on. The Thanksgiving meal is tense of course. Noah thinking Elle moved on and Elle thinking Noah moved on. Noah's friend talks to Elle and tells her that nothing is going on between them. Elle realizes she made a mistake and tried to get to Noah before he leaves. There is drama with that but they end up back together and everything is perfect.

I honestly liked the first movie better. I had watched the movie before reading that book. All around I feel like the first movie was just more action packed I guess. It was more enjoyable to me. But that is just my opinion and who cares right?
